TÜV HELLASBrochure and Vehicle Branding
ATHENS is a series of four typographic A3 posters, a socio-political exercise I made at Vakalo College in 2019. Its subject is Athens today, a city where antiquity, Orthodoxy, tourism and street culture live on the same wall. In each poster the word ATHENS builds the image in a different way. In the first, the letters step down like stairs with a double shadow in ochre and brick red. In the second, ATHENS repeats twelve times and becomes the columns of a temple under its pediment, in front of a dark sun. In the third, Athena wears her helmet, the halo of a Byzantine icon and an Apple T‑shirt, holds a graffiti spray can and shoots yellow rays from her eyes. In the fourth, a beer bottle and a wrapped souvlaki stand on top of the Parthenon, in front of huge letters. A version of the second poster with a yellow sun closes the series. The four posters were published on Show Us Your Type, the international platform where designers from all over the world make posters for cities that include the city's name, in its Athens edition made together with Volotea.
It is a student exercise, not a client brief, but it shows how I use typography and collage so that a poster says more than a name. Today I design posters, print and posts for businesses across Greece. If you want something similar, get in touch.
